Past Experience

Akshay is a Principal based in our Singapore office and a core member of the Automotive Practice. He advises clients on high-impact strategic mandates, particularly in the areas of decarbonization, electrification, and sustainable mobility. His expertise spans electric vehicles (EVs), battery technologies, and circular economy solutions, including EV conversion, battery swapping, battery recycling, and sustainable and recyclable materials.
In addition to his deep focus on next-generation mobility, Akshay has extensive experience in traditional automotive sectors, having worked with leading Japanese, Korean, European, and Indian clients across all product segments, from passenger vehicles and two-wheelers to commercial and off-highway equipment.
Akshay has a deep understanding of decarbonization strategies employed by major OEMs in Southeast Asia and India, covering the full spectrum of alternative powertrains and low-carbon solutions. He has worked closely with automakers and tier-1 suppliers on initiatives related to EV adoption, battery supply chain localization, and policy-driven decarbonization roadmaps. Beyond electrification, he has also advised on biofuels, hydrogen fuel cell adoption, and sustainable materials, helping clients navigate regulatory landscapes and formulate long-term sustainability strategies.
His experience in battery swapping includes conducting commercial and technical due diligence for multiple battery-swapping operators, evaluating business models, regulatory frameworks, and technology readiness. He has worked with both start-ups and established players in designing scalable battery-swapping infrastructure, optimizing swap station networks, and assessing interoperability challenges. He has also collaborated with policymakers and investors to shape strategies that enhance battery-swapping adoption, particularly in urban mobility and commercial fleet applications, where minimizing downtime is critical.
In the EV conversion space, Akshay has advised businesses on retrofitting traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles into electric powertrains, helping companies navigate technical, regulatory, and commercial challenges.
Some of his notable projects include feasibility studies on battery and cell manufacturing, commercial and technical due diligence for battery-swapping operators, and similar assessments in battery recycling. His strategic insights have helped clients make informed decisions on investment, technology selection, and market entry in the evolving EV ecosystem.
Recognized as a thought leader in electromobility and decarbonization, Akshay is a frequent speaker at major automotive and EV conferences across Southeast Asia. He also actively contributes to leading industry publications, offering insights on battery innovations, recycling technologies, and broader energy transition topics.
Akshay has contributed and written for The Wall Street Journal, The Straits Times, Bangkok Post, and Nikkei, among other notable journals.
Before joining Arthur D. Little Southeast Asia, Akshay was part of Arthur D. Little India, where he played a pivotal role in advising clients on automotive and mobility strategies. He later joined his family’s startup, focusing on advanced battery-life-enhancing systems, gaining first-hand entrepreneurial experience in battery performance optimization.
